Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Wanting to switch to BARF

Hiya everyone, can anyone reccomend a really good book for someone wanting to switch to BARF?  I am obssessed with what my dogs eat and I have decided that the only true way I can monitor what they eat is to feed food I know the origin of. I have a three year old Bulldog bitch who had pups 4 months ago and is just coming back into condition and a 5 month old staff dog who is in excellent condition. They are currently fed a combination of dry complete and canned food, which they are doing well on, but I am concerned about the ingredients used in them. Is this switch a responsible thing to do? All I want is the best for my dogs and with the multitude of commercial foods screaming of what they can achieve I get very confused. Perhaps BARF is the way for me to get peace of mind?
Also has anyone had any experience of rasing a litter on BARF? I plan to breed my Bulldog next year to keep a pup as a show prospective. Is it a good diet for pups? What about potential owners, is it best to start the pups on a diet they may find easiest to maintain?
Thanks again, any help gratefully recieved!

In order of accessibility and value:

Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats by Kymythy Schulze (US) available UK
Switching to Raw by Sue Johnson (US) not available in the UK
The Barf diet by Dr Ian Billingshurst (Aus) available everywhere
Give your Dog a Bone by Dr Ian Billingshurst (Aus) available everywhere
Grow your Pups with Bones as above (specifically deals with the nutrition of the dam, sire and puppies)
Raw Meaty Bones by Tom Lonsdale (Aus) available everywhere

Although not strictly raw feeding and including grains as part of the diet Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats by Richard Pitcairn DVM Ph.D. and Susan Hubble Pitcairn is a very good source of information including homoeopathy, herbal remedies, tissue salts, flower remedies etc.

Also The Holistic Guide to a Healthy dog by Wendy Volhard is excellent.

You could try joining Britbarf or Advbarf which is a forum on barf feeding.  I have feed raw for many years and also reared pups on a raw diet with success.
