Thus, I'll start here.

We are in the process of purchasing a "Sammie." I am unable to find a good book or reference
on their history and how we would choose a name for our new family member. Any ideas or
areas you could reference?

If you go to the Samoyed breeders section through the search feature, and go down the list, there are a few breeders with web sites which could have the information you are looking for.
