Topic Dog Boards / Health / Ear Irritation
- By lel [gb] Date 12.04.04 10:44 UTC
Gus is scratching one of his ears , causing the skin behind his ear to bleed slightly. When I've looked in the ear it seems pinker and slightly inflamed compared to the other ear. Not sure if there are two tiny  marks there too. Only seems to have occurred after his last walk yesterday so I am guessing its an insect bite rather than something actually in the ear
So given that the vets is closed today for the Bank Holiday - is there anything I can do to relieve the itch for him or am I best leaving it alone until tomorrow when vets re opens ?

Apis Mel or piriton tablets.

???? The reply is now missing ?

The ear actually looks like it now has waxy stuff inside ? Has anyone else had this before ?
- By candie [gb] Date 12.04.04 15:20 UTC
hi lesley, poppy my old lab cross  had waxy itchy ears for years till i started using thornit, its like a miracle all the gunk comes out and she doesn't mind me putting it in.
ps candy sends a big staffy kiss to gus..

Gus says thanks Candy :)

There looks to be quite a bit of gunk in there - but his ear was clear yesterday . Thats why I'm alittle puzzled? and its really irritating him :(

How is she by the way ? Into everything and ruling the roost already I bet :D

hi lesley
yeah she is absolutely brilliant, really loves the other dogs and they dote on her, shes gettin on really well with training and can sit and shake paws already.we are taking her in the caravan this weekend as she loves it, she stands on the chairs and barks out of the window at everyone going past! The only down side is that i've lost a former friend who's bfriend thinks they are "killer dogs," as his daughter got bitten by one at weekend. They have said they wont be coming round anymore until i get rid of her... looks like its bye bye  to them.
I'm really annoyed how they can put candy in the same category as an adult staff that had been mistreated to the point that it snapped and bit.I am also upset that they are branding all staffs as "killer dogs," aren't people stupid? I ahve tried to educate them regarding the breed but they don't want to know..

Theres a lot of educating to be done with regard to Staffs unfortunately :(

Glad to hear Candy is doing well :)

Hi Em
we are at vets at 2.20- he didnt get much sleep and keeps shaking his head.
But hes still eating and acting normal although its irritating him.
Will let you know how we get on when we get back :)
- By mumford16 [gb] Date 13.04.04 11:51 UTC
please do :) hope he will be ok, give him a cuddle from me & Jazz
- By lel [gb] Date 13.04.04 14:33 UTC
We've been given eardrops . There is a possibility it could be linked to his itchy feet
Ever felt like youre going around in circles :( Just as they start to get better - now this

Anyway Gus now hates me because I have to put squirty stuff ( Aurizon) into his ear and he hated it . He hid under the chair from me afterwards :(
How mean do i feel :(
- By mumford16 [gb] Date 13.04.04 14:36 UTC
ah poor Gus, he is a staffie he can't hate you for long, that would mean no cuddles!!!! :D

at least is not serious xx

aah lesley give him a kiss from us.I only have to say the  word "ears" and poppy dives under the sideboard.we tried everything from the vets antibiotic drops etc for years and tried thornit and its like a miracle. The vets don't endorse it though, he wanted to do an aural resection on her ear but shes fine now.hope gus gets better soon!!ps and update on the "staff" that bit my friends daughter, its was a boxer cross staff but theyr're still on the "staffs are killer dogs" trip.....grrrrrr

Whats happened to this dog now ??
- By candie [gb] Date 13.04.04 21:20 UTC
sadly it was pts on saturday morn, i suspect it wasn't entirely the dogs fault though but given the evidence that it has torn some of her ear off the vet was probably left with no alternative. There's a lot more to it i can tell knowing this particular teenage girl but it's too late for the poor dog now!
