People on another board are going in raptures about these things called Greenies (dental chews) I've never heard of them till now. Do we have them in the UK? Are they known by a different name here? Have been on the net and found a site that sells them but they seem very expensive, have worked it out that to give my 2 dogs one everyday would cost £40.00 a month. I spend that in a year on toothpaste for us lot!! Can anyone tell me if they are available cheaper elsewhere and give their opinion if they are any good. Thanks.
Hi Harriet,
They are available here in Australia,my dogs love them, yes they are also available in the U.K.
They ARE expensive,i give my girls the petite size at $2 each but not everyday, maybe 2-3 times per week,i also cut them down the middle lengthways, iff i dont it takes them too long to chew them and they lose interest.
What size is your dog?If you have a big dog it wont take him very long to chew thru one, altho the jumbo size ones are massive!!They are good as a supplement for real bones, such as marrow bones or ribs,so you could give the real bones 4 times per week and greenies the other days. The packet actually states 2-3 per day :o that would be around $30 per week! You can also buy them in bulk, they cost $32 for 18 petites here, how much are they charging over there??Things are usually much cheaper in the U.K then here in Aus. I buy mine from the vets, few pet shops carry them.
They are very high in protein, something like 52%,a friend of mine feeds greenies she doesnt feed bones, her dogs teeth are pearly white :D so they do keep their teeth clean.
Can you let me know how much they are over there.

I tried (ok, the dogs tried) these after getting them as freebies, at Crufts. I really don't rate them as a dental product - how can anything chewed so quickly be of use? - and they went through my dogs like a dose of, well, you know what! Expensive laxatives, IMO! ;)
The first time my dogs had them their poops were a little loose but thet are o.k now.If you do try them dont be alarmed if your dogs poo are green, this is normal :)

Hi Christine, the general price on the net here is about £9.50 cheapest - £15.50 dearest for a pack of 15 medium. I have Whippets so think they would need the medium size ones. Sorry didn't notice how much the petite ones were.

They contain: Processed wheat gluten, glycerine, natural flavour, powdered cellulose, monosodium phosphate, monoglycerides of edible fatty acids, magnesium stearate and chlorophyll
In other words cereal and grass(es)/stalks with emulsifiers and flavours!
I would rather give my dog a real bone!

These are very popular here in Japan at the moment, and also very expensive here - about 12 quid for a bag of 10 or so (I get the medium size for my saluki) - I just give them as ocassional treats so they don't seem to have made that much of a difference, except for the green poo the day after, but a friend of mine gives her lab one every day and he really does have pearly white teeth which everyone notices and comments on.
