Hi everyone,
I've started taking my girls out for seperate walks now, Sasha needs more training on hers (her recall isn't too good yet) and Ellie needs to be encouraged to run a bit more on hers (she's a bit overweight). So, this morning, I take Sasha out on a trailing line and she was fine, BUT, then someone I know stopped to talk to me so I was momentarily distracted when Sasha decided to take off after another dog (who I didn't know was there), of course, I didn't brace myself for this or call her back because this chap was chatting away, so I ended up on my backside in front of 2 kids football teams and their parents - I was so embarrassed!!!
THEN, I dropped Sasha off at home and picked up Ellie, as soon as we walked on to the field a GSD who belongs to one of my neighbours immediately ran at us barking and snrling, luckily he stopped when I shouted at him (I've seen other dog owners doing this to this dog). This dog has attacked Ellie three times now and the first time I met him I didn't realise what he was like and Ellie was off the lead so he managed to pin her to the ground with his jaws round her neck!! I've had a word with this dogs owner before and he says 'he's only playing'!!! Well, he definitely was NOT playing so this time I went over to him (he was miles away from the dog at the time and didn't even call him when he ran over barking and snarling at us!!) I asked him to keep his dog under control because I didn't like him trying to bite my dog - he still insisted that his dogs behaviour was 'what dogs did'!!!! I mean, why should I and everyone else who walks their dogs on this field keep their dogs on a lead just because this one man can't or won't control his???? This dog even snapped at Ellie while I was standing tlking (OK shouting :D) to this man, but he still wouldnt have it that his dog was behaving unreasonably. One of the football trainers came over and suggested that next time I should hit the dog with a big stick and then he'd have to control it - but I said, It's not the dogs fault, it's the owners - I don't want to go round hitting dogs - some people eh?? IS there anything I can do - other dog walkers moan about him too. Anyway rant over, sorry it's been a long moan, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
