Just heard a dog walking friend has died suddenly in a car accident via another dog walker. He was a lovely man who loved dogs and tenderly cared for his old blind poodle and a rescued Golden Retriever. When we met him on a late night walk he was such restful company, never a bad word to say about anyone and often giving out handy tips on dog care in a tactful way. The worst of it is I didnt know his wife or his young son so dont know how to act when I see her out with the GR - poor poodle died a week ago. In fact I didnt even know for sure where he lived. Its very shocking as he was only 40. Puts some perspective into daily life - Ill never let OH out without a kiss and telling him I love him again.

That is sad - we never know when it's to be our 'turn' does it?  If you see her out with the dog, it would be nice to go out of your way to mention that you heard about her loss, and you'd like to tell her how much you enjoyed her husband's company during your walks, maybe ask if there's anything you can do to help - maybe the dog needs a walk at time when she's tied up with other things?

Very sad :(
Maybe you can offer for her to come on walks with you or even her son. That would be nice.
Very sorry :(
