My 2 year old Boxer is getting a bald patch/thinning hair on her side.  The vets said this was quite common in Boxers and is down to her hormone levels.

The patch doesn't bother her at all, but I have noticed that she is getting quite a lot of dandruff on her back.

Is there anything I can buy over the counter to improve the condition of her coat?  I'd be grateful for your advice.

Go back to your vet and ask for the dog to be tested for thyroids.  This as one of the first symptoms  grandperents boxers got, it then went to alot more hair loss and then his nose drying up and him becoming VERY lefargic, went to two vet practises and they didn't have a clue, went to another vet and she saw him and said thyroids, had him tested and he was, now being treated after too many years but he has improved alot!!!

If its not thyroids then possibly evening primrose oil from Hollands and Barrets should help coat grow back.

Hopefully it won't be thyroids, butu there is the problem in boxers so at least if the tests are negative then you have nothing to worry about, but if positive then it will  be able to be kept under control with medication, not sure if it can be cured!! But it might be able to!

Good luck, I hope it is nothing
