Thanks to this site, we were put in touch with a number of border terrier breeders and have now found the perfect one one for us. Our chosen pup will be 2 weeks old on Sunday and I am trying to make sure that we everything ready for when she comes home. My main problem is I would like to use a crate as she will be so tiny and I want her to have a place of peace away from my daugher and cat. However, I am having difficulty in trying to find out the correct size. I know the average size of a border terrier but would like to know that I am getting the correct size so that she can still use the crate as an adult but at the same time not dwarf her when she is first home. Our breeder does not use a crate and another breeder I spoke to was not sure of size. I have also telephoned a crate supplier today but they say they can't advise the correct size!? Not sure why. Anyway, can anyone out there please recommend the appropriate size for a border terrier. I would like the measurements in inches in with length first followed by width and height.
Many thanks for your anticipated assistance.
ps. we chose a pup instead of a rescue in the end in consideration of our existing family ie cat and daughter. Ourr breeder has two cats and a child so the pup will be used to both by the time she comes to us.

One that would suit would be the size that is stocked by Argos, and a lot of Pet suppliers, it is 21inches wide by 30 inches long, and 24 inches high. My next door neighbout bought an Argos one very reasonably priced for their jack Russels. Even an Elkhound up to about 5 months would fit in one at a push, (once adult the ears need a taller cage). I imagine a smaller one would do, but it probably wouldn't be any cheaper, as this seems to be a popular size. JMHO

When your pup is small you can put another bed at the back and cover this part of the cage with a cloth so its nice and dark. Leaveing the
front part for newspaper and water bowl etc. I agree the argo"s one
should be right and are a good price.

I agree the Argos one is excellent, I'd recommend it to anyone.
I also have a Rosewood one and a Croft one and the Argos one is far cheaper and just as good. Wished someone had told me before I spent all that extra money!

Hi, the Argos one is good, but it is big for a border - check it will fit your car as it wont fit in some. I have Westies and my cages are 24"long, 18" wide and 21" high which I would have thought would be adequate. If you want to use it for sleeping in to help with keeping clean overnight, if you have a very big one, he may well mess in it as there is almost too much room.
If you are going to use a crate to travel in the car with any regularity, the Argos one although lighter than some is just too big to carry on your own, you would need to fold it down each time, unless you have arms like a gorilla!! :-) JIMO too.
