Hi all, i have two huskies which i have decided to try to work in harness, more emphasis on'TRY'. They are both 1yr old and have started pulling light weights for a couple of months now. I am looking to order a rig, but the thing is how do i train them to pull right, left , and stop on command. I have tried, but no luck. I know i should go to watch husky trials but i dont drive so transport is difficult, if i could train my huskies i'd sled there! :)
I dont want to give up as i want to do this more than anything, plus my sister has two 4month ols husky pups and i'd love to be able to train them aswell and have a team of 4, would be my dream. If any one has any advice, epescially on how to train them to turn left, right, stop etc, would be most appreciated.
Many Thanks, Natalie.

Where do you live Natalie, may be able to put you in touch with someone near you who will help you get started. Theres a lot to learn and it's much easier to have someone show you how to do it.

As husky says, it's easier if you get in contact with people near you who can help - try contacting the Siberian Husky Club....

However, you can start teaching them the turning commands from an early age. When you are out walking them, when you take a left turn say "Haw" and when you turn right say "Gee" (as in Jee). When you come across an obstacle or person and you want them to continue on without stopping, say "On by". Even the pups can start learning these commands and it'll hopefully make things easier when they finally get to pull a rig. Hope that's of some help!
