Many orange roans do not grow heavy coats - they often have flat, silky coats & do not always develop the puppy fluff that some of the other colours do. At 4 months old, your puppy is unlikely to have much feathering yet - this will gradually grow over the next few months.

Not my breed but doesn't it also depend on wether its from working or show lines...show lines tending to have a more glamorous coat than working since a heavy coat would hinder a working dog?

My cocker bitch is from working lines and I would say that she has only just properly developed a decent coat at 2yrs old.

as jane said orange roans and golds/reds often have finer hair sleek and smooth , not that frizzy fluffy hair other colours have :) 4 months isent old at all it will grow :)
