Hi all!!!
I have a "wee" problem with monty (pardon the pun!)
Everytime he see's someone, either out and about or they come to my house, if they come anywhere near him, he wets himself with excitement! I keep him behind a baby gate when they come in and introduce themselves slowly but even if they ignore him til he calms down, as soon as they go near him, he gets all excited again.
I have NO idea how to stop this! silly bouncing beardie!!!!!
btw. he's now 11 months
thanks,
I do hope someone has an answer for you but I had a Munster bitch that did this every time she saw my son

I'm afraid she never did outgrow it ;)
I was advised to tell him to ignore her when he first came in - not easy when she was all over him (literally :D ) In the end he met her outside so she would wee out there instead of in the house.
Sorry I'm not much of a help :(

Some do some don't, big help :-D Una did but grew out of it and none of the rest ever did. I used to try to let her greet people outside and keep her as calm as possible as I think if you keep them away it'll make it worse. Honest time will solve it, mind you at 11 months that's not such a "wee" problem

lol!!
Thanks for your replies. we used to get him to sit and try and calm him before people came up to him. Didnt work!
Strange thing is, he doesnt do it with me or my partner, he jumps all over us like a dog possessed but doesnt wee. :) MAD!!
Hiya
We seem to be just overcoming this problem ourselves. What we still continue to do is to get visitors to completely ignore Rosie, not even any eye contact (including us), and continue this for the duration in which we are certain that she has calmed completely. We don't send her to her bed or close her off from us and the visitors in any way. When we first tried this, we were't waiting for long enough and the same would happen, she'd just go up to the visitor that thought she'd calmed down and as soon as they applied the 'fuss', she'd piddle
Other advice is to greet the visitors from outside to avoid the mess, but that would mean that by the time we put her lead on, unlocked the door, and responded to the doorbell....they'd probably have left :D
Anyway, IMHO, I'd say, not to send her to her bed or close her off from you (she may well develop an association that will take longer to overcome) and just continue the ignoring bit for as long as it takes. (Hard, I know)
She could also, simply just grow out of it ;)
Take Care

Hi,
We used to have the same problem with Nanuk. Every time we had a visitor, she would get so excited she would lose all bladder control. I remember her once peeing over our plumbers foot when he knocked at our door.....never did see him again :-D
Even now, she is 5 this year and if she hasn't been put out to go to the toilet she sometimes does it. Like most people have said, when you have visitors, make sure they ignore him until he has calmed down and sat there. I know it's hard when you have a 55 lb dog crawling all over you! Once he has sat, get visitors to stroke him. Another tip is to leave treats outside the front door and encourage visitors to take some, so when they walk in and the dog has sat, they can then reward him. All I can say is I am glad my Malamute doesn't do that. he pee's for England!!

Una never did it with family members either

hi all,
thanks for your help on this one :)
Another problem (i think my dog needs councelling!) is that i can't ignore him when someone turns up. He bounces, not just a little but nearly shoulder height now - its a beardie characteristic. So when someone, including me, comes in, he cant stop bouncing for about 5 mins! Even tried stopping eye contact, ignoring him, getting him to sit, which he does but as soon as you stroke him he bounces again!
Any help is appreciated as he's driving me bonkers!!
Thanks

I have to admit that mine mug visitors very nicely but they do bounce :-0

How about, before you even open the door to let visitors in, you put him on his lead so you have some control and can teach him how to greet people properly?

tried that too when we are out. I try and get him to sit and behave but as soon as that person goes near him, he gets excited again. Its as though he hasnt seen a person before!!
I suppose he will hopeully grow out of it as he is still only a pup but OMG its so embarrassing!!!
At least he doesnt do any other bodily functions in front of people!
