our border meg was mated on the 27 jan and is very big pups are moving around
she looks well and is eating titbits her temp is normal at the moment
we took her to the vets at 9.0 this morning vet checked her over and told us her uterus was open anyway at 3.30 vet called and said to bring her down
for a c section at 5.30 this freaked us out as shes showing no signs
of distress at all as i type she is happy pups are moving a small clear
discharge was on her nest but did'nt smell bad i did take her to the vets and she confirmed the uterus was open but there is no signs of contractions
i refused to have the c section because i have a gut felling it will happen soon
but will call the vet out if i have too can any one give me some advice
please sorry about the long post and the rambing on only i dont really know what to do ....dave and a big collie called meg

Don't know much about breeding but would have thought if her the vet said her uterus was open(same as cervix dilated in a woman??) this morning something should have happened by now.If you trust your vet I'd take their advice...hope things go ok

As the pups are due today I wouldn't worry unduely unless she was showing clear signs of distress. Not sure why the vet is so eager to open her up (well can hazard a guess!). Just keep her inher whelping area and nice and quiet and hopefully things will start to move. Please register so you can keep us posted!!

well, if i am right you are only on day 63/64 ? If she is not looking uncomfortable I would go with your gut feeling. You sound sensible and have it all under control, but if you need any help, please feel free to ask. I will try and help as much as possible
good luck!!

She sounds OK to me, but why don't you ask the vet
why he wants to do a Caesarean?

i thought that the opening of the uterus was about 6" inside the bitch or there about and that it was imposible to reach it (i think i read it in a book but could of been dreeming lol) cos most peoples fingers are not that long. but then again it might depend on what breed.
if it was me i would go with your gut felling,
and 1 of my bitches went to day 69
One of the vets at my practice is very skinny and I was told recently that she had an OES that had difficulty whelping. She managed to reach inside just as she would with a sheep and save a caesarian!

Well i think its a difficult call. I would like to say go with your gut instinct. If nothing is happening you should ask your vet why he wanted to do a c.section today. Does he suspect inertia? If so then her uterus will not contract and expel pups no matter how big a hole she has for those pups to come through. In those cases if you dont act and get them out they will die. I know i have seen it twice now. So like I say difficult call and as your bitch is not in front of me I cant say. I had one bitch that had inertia she seemed to go through the bed shredding and then nothing, she did not seem that uncomfortable however I felt her stomach and it was a little hard and she did not stand on her toes right, as if a little tender.
If your bitch is really normal then it does make you wonder if it will happen. The other thing is that some vets just want to operate as they make a good lot of money out of it, so its really difficult. Good luck I really hope all works out well for you.
