We have a 9 year old dog who has infected anals.  She has suffered with repeated infections and has now exhausted all antibiotic treatment.  The vet has suggested an operation even though he feels she may not pull through, as a last resort.  She has heart problems which may make this touch and go.  Is there any alternatives for treating these infected glands before resorting to this dubious option?

Any suggestions will be greatfully received.
