Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Advice on breeding from our dog

we have a border terrier - full pedigree - and would like to breed from him as we would like to keep on of his "sons".  Doug is 10 months old and is a red grizzle.  We would prefer him to mate with another red grizzle.  Basically, we need advice as to how to find a suitable bitch and a guideline as to how old he should be.

We live in the north west.

1/show him to see how he measures up to the breed standard
2/pay to get his health tests done
3/wait for a bitch owner to admire his virtues and consider he is of suitable quality and lines to make a good match for  their bitch
4/have suitable accomodation to house both the bitch and its owner/handlers while the mating takes place...overnight if needs be
5/be prepared to take back any puppies during their lifetimes if they are no longer wanted
You may want a son from your dog...what about the others?the likely hood of just one pup being born is very slight
Alternatively go out and buy one from the same lines.
