I am after some long haired Jacx Russell puppies (short legged).  Does anybody know of any breeders?

Am I right in thinking that this type of Jack Russell is not KC registeres?

Is there a particular name for this type of Jack Russell?

Thanks

Annie

Ive never heard of a long haired jack russell, but Im not an expert. You should do a search on the net and look for breed clubs. They are the best place to start when looking for any type of dog.

Jack Russells are a working terrier and seem to come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Parson Russell Terriers are the breed that are registered and recognised by the KC. They were formaly known a  Parson Jack Russell after the person who developed them, I believe from the Fox terrier but I'm not sure about the background.

Do you mean rough or broken coated? No, the short legged type aren't recognised by the KC. Do a search on here (top right of screen) for JRs & you'll find some suggestions of where to look. Also look here http://www.mal.douglas.btinternet.co.uk/jackrussells.htm

Hi Annie,

When you say long haired, do you mean 'rough coated'? instead.  In my experience, pretty much all Jack Russell/JRX have either short or rough/broken coats.  As they are primarily from the working terrier stock, a true long coat would be a hindrance and possibly a danger.  You might possibly find a long coated pup in a litter that had been crossed with another terrier, for instance a Yorkshire terrier, but they don't have long coats as pups.  The thing about Jacks is that, unless they're Parsons, there's is no 'blueprint' for them.  Someone could have any two types of Terrier, cross them and call the pups Jacks. As Jackie H has already said, they come predominantly from the fox terrier, so the coats are more likely to be smooth or 'wiry' rather than long.
You might think about contacting a terrier rescue group, I'm sure that the Jack must have some. They might be able to give you some more information about Jack x's.

Good luck in your search.

Ali :)
