lily will need worming in a few weeks (she'll be 9 months), she has previously been on panacur paste but i'd like to try her on drontal (for tapeworms) but i don't know how much to give her. is the smallest tablet available for 10kg of dog, because they're the only ones I've seen ? lily is just under 6kg so a wee bit small, but too big for half a tablet. any ideas ?

I use half a tablet for my 5kg and under schip bitches but if they're over 6 kgs nearer 7 then I give them 3/4's and so on, it can be a bit messy trying to split half into half again but I'd rather that then over do them. My boys who are 7kg's and upwards all get a whole tablet and do fine on it, just the girls I watch out with as they do vary in weight depending on season's etc.

Hi Sarah,
Ask your vet!
The manufacturers provide advise on dosage per body weight. That usually means for a small dog the dosage is more than they actually need, but of course not high enough to be any problem for the dog. I have the same problem with Abby, my Cairn. I have either had to cut tablets down to the correct dosage or give her more than she really needs. It annoys me that the manufacturers do not make tablets in more sizes so the dosage can be more precise - but then again, I suppose they make more money this way.
