Hello I have had my puppy Sam for 4 weeks, he came to us with loose stools and a little blood in it,after a few investigations it turned out to be Campylobacter, he then became very ill and was put on a drip etc, we brought him home today, but there is only 1 problem he cannot walk, he is as lively as he was before as in biting etc, and can stand on all fours but can't walk,a nd drags himself along the ground, we are in the process of having further blood tests done, as the vet wants to rule out Toxoplasmosis and neospora, does anyonehave any ideas, can campylobacter cause lambness in a dog, or do you think its just where he is weak from being ill. Also if it was neospora, can it be cured as it would be cruel for the dog if he couldn't walk for the rest of his life. Thanks for any info Lynette
Neospora can often be helped with antibiotics although it may take quite a while for you to get him going again. Keep massaging and exercising his limbs to try to keep the muscles supple and fully stretched/retracted, if he is small enough them put him in a bath full of water so he can "swim" but make sure he is well supported and maintain strict hygine in disinfecting bath and cleaning towels until you know exactly what his problem is.
Have you had a word with his breeder to see if his mother or siblings are affected as if it is Neospora this can be passed on from a bitch to one or more of her pups in utero

Campylobacter will not cause lameness in your dog. Yes it could make him weak, but not so weak he's collapsing & if he's had IV fluids - it sounds like something else is causing him to collapse.
Neaspora is not that well researched although I know there are people working on it.
If that's what he has - it will depend on the severity of it & how far it has travelled through his system. Main thing is to get a good vet who will prescribe the correct cocktail of drugs. If it is n/s with the right medication there's every chance he'll be ok.
Good luck. :)
