In January I will be collecting a new puppy from Glasgow and bringing it back to Cornwall (Border of).
If we go by car it is going to be about 9 - 10 hrs travelling, longer with the stops!
We would travel up the day before and collect the pup the next day and head for home.
Or we can go by plane! This would consist of a 2 hr car journey to the airport, then 1 and a half hrs plane travel and then back again. After seeing airport on the TV and the way some of the animals are that have flown I have my doubts about this method although obviously easier for us. Would a plane journey at this young age damage my pup?
I only want a puppy from this breeder and we have been waiting for 3 years, so any help gratefully received.

Hallo nice to see I'm not the only early poster. I would not be happy to use a plane with such a young pup, IMO much better to go by car even with the problems of such a long journey. If pos. ask the breeder to have the first injection done for you, and if you have to let the puppy out of the car during the trip you will have to find somewere off the main roads and not a place used by too many dogs, but if you can keep the pup in the car. Allow time on your lap, time asleep and time to play. If you could find somewere to stay overnight on the way back where you knew the chance of picking up infection was low that may be the best bet, perhaps the breeder could make a suggestion or someone on this board may be able to help. Where would you break your journey?

Hi, If you would like to fly, I think it may be worthwhile contacting the airline involved as some airlines allow small crated pets to travel in the plane with you, so they would not need to go into the hold or other area. If they will allow it, get it in writing and totally arranged before you travel.

Be very careful if you do make arrangments to fly and take the pup with you in the cabin. My sister sold one of her pups to Jersey and said she would go with it, made arrangments with the airline to have the pup crated but in the cabin with her but when it came to it she was not allowed onto the plane with the crated pup and had to allow it to go into the hold. Needless to say she spent the whole time in tears and when she landed the pup was very distrested too, she will never send a pup by air again.
