Last friday i had gone round to a friends for a coffee and a chat when we heard her dog going mad in his kennel, when we looked out there was a stray in the garden, very aloof but did let us pop a lead on him and check for collar etc , nothing!.
We took him down to the local vet to check for microchip nothing there either.
The thing is my friend lives in the middle of no-where , so how the dog got there is rather strange.
He looks like some kind is spitz breed but all his middle section has been shaved off.
My friend has a spare kennel so he is in there eating fine drinking fine.
We phoned the local rescue center they won't take him so we phoned the dog warden again they say they have no room for him either.
We have put posters up but to no avail.
What now?
Can anyone suggest anything , she can't keep him

Have you tried www.doglost.co.uk (sorry can't do links)
Have you tried your local police station? According to Doglopedia, they are the first people to call. Also, try your dog warden again. Although I personally, from similar experience, have little faith in them they are supposed to pick up lost/stray dogs. It is virtually their main function as a dog warden so how they can refuse to collect beggars belief. What would happen if your friend didn't have a spare kennel/run? Are you supposed to turn it loose to fend for itself? I think if it were me I'd make a bit of a stink.
Be careful, when it happened to my friend, she discovered that if she kept the dog for 7 days in her kennel because there was no room elsewhere, the rightful owners lost lawful ownership. This passed to my friend who 'kept' the dog. Having 'kept' the dog for 7 days you then HAVE to keep it for a month before rehoming it! She found that in trying to do a good turn she became responsible. It might sound hard but if your friend cannot or doesn't want to keep the dog for herself she must pass it on to police/dog warden/rescue centre.

I know from bitter experiance that the police in some areas do not have the facilities to keep stray dogs, and ifyour dog warden is anything like ours only works 9to5 mon to fri and there is no one else to contact.

you say the dog was shaved around his middle, is there any evidence the dog has had some kind of recent operation? that could account for the area being shaven? if this is the case perhaps trying local vets as well as police and rescue centres could be a good idea, a local vet may recognise the dog, especially if they have operated on him :-)

Thanks everyone,
I did contact the police but they said that they had no where to put him, but they rang the dog warden for me and he was collected this afternoon.
Thanks again for your help.
