i was out walking my dog the other day and saw what looked like a chow chow it came running up to say hello and then i knew it wasnt as the faces was not right it look like a shar pei the owner came over so i asked him he said yes shes a long coated shar pei
is there a long coat ???

Their was one at Discovery dogs at Crufts, i had never seen one until then.

theres one around us,a dark one.

Just did a quick search and seemingly they have 3 coat types,the longest being called a bear coat which is soft and wavy where the other 2 are harsh,things you find out,amazing!Sandra.

The lovely Red Bearcoat you saw on the discover dogs stand at Crufts is called Rockie, he is so gentle and loving, he really does pull in the crowds,he craves all the hugs and cuddles, he gets from the crowds his owners are so proud of him :-) He attends most years bless him.

I think they call them bear coats and they appear because the long hair gene is recessive. You get long haired rotties too!

Yes the Long coated Sharpei is the third coat length, they are officially called Bearcoats :-) Make lovely pets, but are usually sold to their new owners on a spay/neuter contract, and normally sold at a much reduced price, reflecting the coat length, as they are not to the breed standards.
I had one crop up in one of my litters a few years ago, a cream male,  his owners would have another one anytime :-) he is spoilt rotten...LOL, they are frequently stopped by passers by to ask what is Alfie's breed :-)
