I am still waiting for my 11 month old goden retriever to have her first season, and i have been regularly checking, but found not physical signs yet. However on monday when i took her to training one of the male dogs was extremely interested in her, (he's not usually like that) but as none of the other 2 dogs were interested i put it down to a one off. Today out walking we were accosted by a male GR (without an owner) who refused to leave us alone and kept trying to mount ellie at every possible opportunity. He didn't approach my other (spayed) bitch (luckily because she would try to kill him!) and ellie was getting really annoyed with him. When i checked her at home she wasn't bleeding and she wasn't swollen so i don't think she is in season, but could this mean that she will be very soon? I don't want to be in that situation again, as i literally had to fed off this dog. It turns out he belonged to the builder working on a house across the road from the beach where i was walking, so unless we avoid the area completely we will probably come across him again (since the owner couldn't care a less what his dog is doing - no collar or tag, and it took him ages to call his dog back, even though he could see i was struggling!! GRR!!)
Some bitches have what is called 'a silent season'. This means they don't show signs but go through hormonal changes and can give off an odour. This time of year some male dogs are very excitable when they get the scent of a bitch, be it in season or spayed bitch or neutered dog. They can give off odours that are exciting to entire males or neutered ones. If you are insure go to your vet and they should be able to advise you. Hope this helps.:)
Sorry spelling error, should be "unsure" not insure.?

I did find with my younger dog that other dogs were interested in her for several weeks before she came into season :)

Hi
I have a chocolate labrador bith, Luna is now 11½ months old, and still no season!
I'm waiting and watching just like you. But nothing...... Bella, a GSD, was only 7 months when she had her first season - starting new years eve. She is about 1½ months younger than Luna. Very strange.....
Jeanette
My gsd also called Bella came into season at 7months, anna was 15 months thats a few years ago now, Maya my baby westie has just finished her season, she was 7 months, just right now the agility season is starting, and we can go away camping without worrying.
