CAN ANYONE HELP I HAVE A 18 MOUNTH MALE STAFF WHICH HAS NOT BEEN DONE AND A 14 MOUNTH BITCH STAFF, THE PAIR OF THEM HAD A BIG FIGHT 2 DAYS AGO AND WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET THEM BACK TOGETHER SINCE, MY 2 STAFFS HAVE HAD A FEW LITTLE COMING TOGHTERS IN THE PAST BUT EVERY THING HAS BENN SORTED, BUT THIS TIME THEY CAN NOT GO NEAR EACH OTHER, AS SOON AS THEY SEE ONE ANOTHER THEY START TO FIGHT AN THEY MEAN IT THE BOY HAS A BAD CUT ON HIS EAR WHICH IS BEING TREATED, tHE ONLY THING WE ARE ABLE TO DO IS PUT THEM IN CAGES IN DIFFERENT ROOMS BUT THIS IS NO WAY CARRY ON, I AM NOT LOOKING FOR AN INSTANT ANSWER BUT i CANT THINK OF ANYTHING WORSE THAN HAVING TO GET RID OF ONE OF THEM. BY THE WAY THE MALE STAFF IS IN NEXT WEEK TO BE DONE.

Unfortunately sometimes dogs get to the age where they take an instant dislike to another dog and they will never be able to get back together. I don't think neutering your boy will help in this instance as they clearly are too wound up with each and it will not make a difference that he has been done.
You may not want to hear this but it may be best to rehome one of them.

You say that he is still entire is the bitch as well?? if so does he keep trying to mount her if so this is why she is so fed up with him

hi, firstly staffies when they reach maturaty that is at around 18mths or so, this can be a problem and i think it may be for you. the bitch almost is certain to be head of the household, the male will not like this and therefore wants to put her in her place, but she will not stand down, on occasion 2 staffys can live in harmony, but this is a rare thing, they are fighting dogs, they tend to be more aggresive towards each other than say a dog of a diffrent breed, i have a staffy and a rottie, my rottie is in charge, she is younger than my staffy but he knows his place. i think if you intend to keep them both you should try to keeep them apart for short perioeds of time be constant, try using muzzles, especially if one tends to be more aggresive than the other! hope things work out!

<<occasion 2 staffys can live in harmony, but this is a rare thing>>
Is it really that rare for Staffys to live together in harmony, I think there are loads of people who manage to keep more than one Staffy without trouble, most the people I see at shows have more than one, usually several more than one. Would some Staffy owner let me know if this statement is true.

In my own experience staffs and all types of bullys get on well together if managed properly. I have two my mate has three.(2 bitches 1 male all complete and no cages)

Hello Jackie,

Well in the past I have had a stafford dog and bitch and they lived in harmony for 15 years so YES they can and do, as would be the same with most dogs I think..the way we treat them is the key...and I am getting another shortly too so I will keep you updated. And I know a few people who are on the board who keep more than 1 of a bull breed with no trouble...Mitch...kizzistaff...Gwen...Staffie...Mr Murphy to name a few.

Hi Jackie,
As a Staffie owner, I can definitely vouch for what your saying.
I have 3 Staffords 2 bitches and 1 dog, 4yrs, 12 month and 5 months. They all get on perfectly.
My O/H's parents, also have 3 Staffords again 2 bitches and 1 dog, 9yrs, 7yrs and 5yrs. They have always got along together, and they are not caged.
And someone I know has 9 Stafford, dogs and bitches, ranging from 13 months to 10 yrs. All indoors. She said there has never been a fight between them.
Obviously Im not saying it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't say any more than any other breed.
The problem is, is the damage they could do to each other if it does occur.

I'm glad this subject has come up because i have been told it is very difficult for them to live together on more than one occasion. I too felt it was down to the way (generally speaking) the dogs were managed, home set up etc. Also some dogs will fight over resources rather than just a "place" in the dog pack, and that will be as true of staffies as any other dog. (And some dogs just won't get on full stop :) ) .

well i got my imformation from a staffordshire rescue lady when i was considerring having 2 myself and she adviced strongly against this after her own experiences she had a mother and daughter who she said would have literally ripped each other aprt had they had the chance. i am not saying they cannot live together i know people who have 3 and 4 sometimes it works but i think more often than not it doesn't work, my staffy was part of a pair it was the same situation!

Hi
I also have 2 staffies Dog 3yrs old  Bitch 2yrs old and also a male golden retriever  they all get along  great,
the bitch does have an issue at feeding times, but that is sorted by feeding them apart, and this issue can happen in any breed. they sleep together, play together and get into all sorts of mischeif together, they are the perfect partners in crime,
they are very vocal when playing together and for someone who has never witnessed to staffies playing togther can seem really scary.
i dont think my 2 could live without each other now, when 1 is taken out without the other the 1 left at home will sit and cry and will not settle until the other is back home with them.
its great to sit and watch them cleaning each other, i think i have 2 staffies with the cleaness ears and necks in london

no its not true jackie--i have a friend that has about 8-9 all living in, -from pups to stud dogs , they all know who's in charge. --and it isnt them    :D
i got a great picture from her one night eating her supper and surrounding  her was all  the staffies backsides hoping a bit would fall off.. i suppose a lot of its down to the breeding too, not just the way you handle them,

i have had up to 5 (3 bitches and 2 dogs) stafford live in the same house together (yes it was hard) all got on but the 2 males (one being a pup). :D
At the moment i have 1 bitch and 1 dog living happily together and i also plan on keeping a bitch pup.
with Stafford's you have to know the pack order very well and stick to it.  i would never go to having 5 again but would be quit happy with 4 (with only 1 male)

i have a friend in OZ that has 4 (2 of each) and they all get on very well the older dog is top but slowly come down in rank and the youngest dog is bottom slowly going up.  she planes and getting the oldest 1 done so that the youngest 1 can take his place when he is ready(i hope u know what i mean lol)

i think the problem with the GUEST is that the bitch wants to be at the top and the dog being older don't like it.  the guest also said that the dog is going to be done in the next few weeks and i think this will help sort the problem out.  not saying that it will happen right away but will help

well, my staffie usually gets on really well with my rott, but today they have done nothing but scrap! quite agressively too. it is really bothering me, we had our staff off a lady who had 2 that were fighting, he has been fine until today! i can't believe it! we have had him only 3mths he is 16mths old, usually it is my rott who is sooo in charge ,it is almost like he is saying i have had enough i want to be in charge!
