Topic Dog Boards / Health / Pale Gums

Hi all - my 2 year old bc has developed very pale gums - in other ways she is okay - perhaps a little more tired than usual (but she is rather lazy for a bc anyway).  She is eating, drinking, and the other - all okay.  She is happy to go for walks and runs for ball, etc.  Any ideas - do you think she needs to go to the vet?
Many thanks
Linda

It sounds to me like she's anaemic. She needs to go to the vets to get checked out though.

If a dogs gums or the inside of the eye lid becomes pale a visit to the vet is needed ASAP - it may be nothing but that is a symptom of blood loss and needs attention soon as possible.

I would be concerned about internal bleeding, so would ring the Vet immediately for advice.

Do make an appointment to see the vet with her.
Pale gums can also indicate heart problems which in turn can
be due to something like Hypothyroidism which can also affect
energy levels and can affect the heart function.
Best get her to the vet who will be able to do a full battery of tests.

When my GSD had pale gums at 10 months of age, it was found she had a heart problem and needed major surgery....doesn't mean to say that this is what's wrong with your dog though, but I would get it checked out anyway.
