As some of you might remember I mated Chloe last September but she didn't take. She was mated again 4 weeks ago. I took her for a scan yesterday and there aren't any pups. I am so disappointed. I've decided to have her speyed once she's 'all clear'. At least I've got Chance so I can buy in a bitch later on and (tests ok) mate her back into my line.

Who said breeding was easy? Not me ;)

Sorry to hear that :(  I hope you eventually get what you want though even if it's not quite the way you wanted to get it. :)

i know how you feel, i took poppy down for a mating in october-ish but only went the once---we didnt get anything-----but she then came back into season 4 months after her last, this isnt normal for her as she usually go's at leat 8 months between, -looking back i dont think the last season was a normal one-so ive been down and used a young male but this time weve had several matings, so ive got the 4 weeks to wait now to see if shes taken, and just to make it really hormonal casey just came in, she was due in season december, which means she went 9 months this time , but the timings worked out much better for both of them fitting in with my plans,    :)

If Chloe had given birth this time the pups would have missed out their 'puppyhood' in Champ shows as they would have come out at the end of the show season. We don't have Champ shows with CC's from October until April. Actually, I think there are one or two they could have got to - just. ;)

LindyLou - why are you giving up? Couldnt you try a different dog from the same lines next time? I have a friend who tried three times without success - different dog = 5 puppies! :)

Was it the same dog you mated her to? As Fillis says, sometimes two dogs, though both fertile, simply don't 'take'. I mated my bitch on three successive seasons to one dog (who was siring other litters) with no success. The fourth time I mated her to his full brother, and got a nice litter.

I certainly wouldn't give up. I know what you are going through since I've had terrible luck of my own, two bitches from my very first litter that I was trying for my second generation breeding. One was bred three times and never took, her full sibling was bred once and 4 weeks after being bred have severe closed pyometra and died within a few hours, the vets weren't able to save her. Well finally I bred the other one again and guess what she pregnant only expecting two puppies today or tommorrow!! I was really excited and so many people told me not to give up and I guess maybe my luck is changing around!

Chloe was mated 2 years ago to this dog. She had 13 puppies. 4 died during the caesarian. She had infections for the next 2 seasons. Her following season was clear. I mated her the following season - no pups. I tried again this season, to the same dog, as I wanted a daughter of his by my bitch. It looks like I won't get her now

I don't want to keep putting her through this for no result which is why I've decided to buy in a bitch some time in the future. (Not too distant future I hope ;) )

Personally I feel that there is something wrong with her. Possibly the reason she had the infections in the first place. I don't want to lose her and at least I've got her son so I can come bac into the line. :)

I wouldn't give up if I were you.  A lady who owns a bitch I bred had her bitch miss to the same dog twice, we and the stud owner suggested she try a different dog, but she still wnet with her first choice for a third time, and was confirmed in whelp two weeks ago.

This time she had premate tests done, seems the bitch must have been one of those affable/slutty types who would stand throughout her season, so not giving the best clues for timing.  Looks like she is earlier to ovulate than most in our breed, and she was being mated too late, but happy to oblige.

  i had poppy pack a bag and stay for the week, --so if she has nothing this time i doubt shes ever going to ,--- dont you have someone that will keep your bitch from early days so you know your not missing the right day??????

Weeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllll. I started taking Chloe to the vet for blood tests on day 8 - she was no where near ready. She went back on day 12 - vet said 'she's nearly there, take her tomorrow (Tuesday) and Thursday.' I did. Nothing happened. She wasn't ready. I took her back on the Saturday (day 17) and we had a 30 minute tie. Great we thought. Now nothing. I don't really want to travel way down into the south of England (where my second choice is) when there could be a possibility of another failure. I don't think I could take the stress ;)

As I said before I've got Chance. I know of a litter planned for the end of the year that would tie in nicely with my lines so here's hoping.

I can always use the original stud dog later on as he's only coming up for 5 years old. :)
