I was asked if I knew of any breeders of a certain breed by a women who had just lost her dog at the age of 14.I searched the internet for her and gave her some phone numbers. She phoned one I had given her and they put her in touch with another person. She bought a pup from them.
I've just found out the pup is now 7 months old and only has one testicle.
I phoned the breeder for the women and her mother said she wasn't in.
In the meantime the women fetched the papers round for the dog.On the bottom of the pedigree it says pet only. And no KC papers.
The women wants to show the dog.Ive told her she can't unless it is registered.
I phoned the women again to find out if it is registered.Again the mother said she wasn't in.I was told by a friend to let the breeder know as it is hereditary. And most breeders would want to know.
I've asked round and registered pups are sold for between £350 and £450.
This women has paid £485 for the pup.I feel rotten about this.
The breeder has been in touch with the women and told her to tell me not to phone again or she will take the matter further.
She was given a pedigree and it is a father daughter breeding.
This pup is from a breeder and I think this breeder is doing nothing for the breed she is in.
She has told the women to keep the dog for three month to see if the other testicle comes down.If it doesn't she will give her another KC reg dog to show. The women won't part with the dog she loves it to bits.
Anyone comes to me again I will not help them to find a pup.

Hi Chow I know you must feel awful but at the end of the day it was this ladies choice to buy the dog you were not there and did not encourage her, it is also her responsibility to check the pup was KC'd before she bought him and to inform the breeder she intended to show.
Yes the breeder is probably not being as responsible as you or I would be, that's why you're feeling bad and the breeder isn't but don't let it put you off helping, I just wish someone had been as helpful as you when we were looking for a pup first time, although I'd got enough about me to check the KC registration. Keep your chin up as you've done everything in your power to help it's now up to this lady and the breeder to sort it out between themselves.

I second sauceboats opinion. It was not your fault. Why did the woman you were helping not look into it herself as well and check everything out? She should ahve been doing serious research herself and not leaving it all to you.
My mum bought a bernese mountain dog (long time ago) and to cut a long story short, she shoudlnt have touched it with a barge pole (the breeder said the pup we chose wasnt ok so chose another one for us... SUSPECT or what) anyway, it turned out the dog had hip dysplacia and ended up dying of lymph cancer. It was also psycho. It served my mum right though as she did not look into the breed and what to know.
Dont worry chow, it aint your fault.

Thanks Sauce and Madmarch
It just so anoying to think a breeder could do this. She must have known the women didn't know much about dogs pedigrees and KC reg.
I didn't know anything about pedigrees or KC reg .I just wanted another dog when my poodle who was not registered died at 14.
I wanted a black chow.
I bought the our dog paper and first advert I saw was for black chows.
We went for a bitch and the breeder put him in our arms and said OH ive given you the dog.I had fallen in love so we got him.The breeder kept coming up and she asked us if we had ever fancied showing.I knew nothing about showing and the first open show we went to Chang got a second .I was so proud of him and the bug bit.
Lots of people don't know anything about pedigrees when buying a pup.
If I hadn't bought Chang and got into showing.I would not have known one dogs pedigree from another.
I just think when a breeder takes advantage of someone like this.(In my opinion this one has) .Its not on.
I hope she will think twice before she does it again.
