I would like to take Bradley 10month old boxer off of James Welbeloved before he goes to his new home, because of all the animal testing they do. What brand could anyone recommend. Natures diet makes him a little loose so we mix a small amount with his complete food in the evenings and for breakfast he has Tuna mixed in with the complete food.
He has come back from the kennels looking very skinny, due to the fact he has had yet another growing spurt. He is so much taller than the boxers I saw at crufts, If he doesn't stop growing soon he will look like a giraft, with jowls.
Regards

i use Burns with mia, well when she's eating that is, she love the Lamb and brown rice or the fish and brown rice, her coat is really shiney with this and she looks in good health.

Hi Emma
I've just changed my boxer onto burns canine extra (he is 8mths old),
Burns were very helpful, they advised me to use the canine extra for 2 months to get him use to the lower protein level then go onto anyone of the adult foods.
The change over period recommended was 10-14 days. I've just finished the 14 day changeover and as of yesterday he is on burns only twice a day. So far no adverse reaction to it and less poo :D

If Im honest I haven't checked the protein level in JWB, could that be the reason Bradley is the size of a shetland pony?

My year old Boxer Charlie is doing realy well on Burns venison and brown rice .Not only has it cleared up his colitis but he loves it and clears the bowl(never did this with other brands). Can't recomend highly enough! The kelties are good too and they do free delivery.

Emma,
To be honest, although you're doing it for the best of reasons, as he's going to be changing homes I would stick with the JW for the moment. The chances are that when he's in his new home, his new owners may wish to change to something they are used to and/or can get easily, and it would be to his benefit to have as few changes as possible.

Hi Emma,
The protein content of JWB is about right,
Rightly or wrongly I feed this to my Goldens which are in superb condition. They are definately not oversized within the breed standard. It could be as it happens from time to time that Bradley has grown over his breed standard which could be in genetic makeup somewhere and not necessarily the food hes on.
JWB is at present the only food i'm happy to give them certainly do not get much waste (poo) from them nor does it smell.I'm just looking into Pedigree Professional as I have a pup comming to me on this and some excellent reports back on this food,I also believe Royal Cannin to be excellent
However I agree with a previous post why mess about with his food now while he is settled when the new owners may well change his food again on something they prefer to give.
You give the food that suits you and your dogs whatever the brand.
I certainly would HIGHLY recommend JWB however understand this product might not be for everyone :-)

Hi Emma,
I do take my puppies off JWB puppy food and put them on JWB adult food at 5-6 months lowers protein levels down, however my 1st dog I didn't and she is the correct size.
Sometimes no matter what you do you can't completely control nature and its just one of those things he grown big just like putting 2 sh.champions together can throw something very average /not nice or something outstanding, there are no gurantees and thats why showing and genetics is facinating :-)

I have to say bradley is a beautiful. Just a little tall. I think his dad was large
Hi briony
I feed my Dobe's on Royal Cannin and have found that the recommended amount for my 2 is too much .They get plenty of exercise and have lowered the amount they have because both Ebony and Zak seem to be getting a little tubby.
After Zak was neutered the vet said " watch his weight" and i have been his lifestyle hasn't changed so could his weight gain be down to the neutering?
Ebony , i think has slowed right down in her growth and have cut her portion down she is still on the junior with her being 9 months but i am towing with when to change to adult .
If anyone can help i would be greatful.

Hi,
I think it depends very much on your breed and then on the lines in your pedigrees.
Your best bet would be to seek advice from your breeder who should know their lines well and how they develop.
For me with the Goldies I take them off puppy don't even bother with Junior and put them on to the adult at about 5-6 months and monitor to date not had problem I'm careful about diet and exercise because of hip development and aware of sudden growth spurts however even this still gives you no gurantees.
None of my goldies have been neutered but I believe once done they are prone to carrying more weight.
However there are some breeds that do require good amounts of higher protein but they are bigger dogs so things must be relative too little protein is as bad as too much which is hard on novice owners to get the balance right so seek advice from your breeder.
Sorry not much help about dobes:-)
Briony:-)
Thanks for that will do.
