Never walk alone, but if you have to don't stop and look although you know where you are going.

That was advice somebody gave to me after I moved to Oxfordshire and was stuck for a childminder for a week as my regular one was ill so the next door neighbours daughter said she would look after Flo for me. I didn't know the area so asked peoples opinions at work.

I dropped her off in the morning then got a bus into the City centre. I must admit I was very uneasy about it all as there were some very dodgy characters and abandoned burnt out cars etc around. Not a place I would choose to live in if I was given a choice :) One of my staff lived there and her and husband were both very dodgy and into drugs and crime etc.

Have I painted a very bad picture of the place yet ? :)

Many years ago my car was stolen from Redbridge park and ride (Abingdon road, Oxford) and dumped
in Blackbird Leys.
The Police removed the HT leads from my car to stop it getting stolen again :/
Many years ago there were riots there which made national TV news.
It is widely known for being not such a 'nice' area to live, that's not to say that all
people that live there are bad people. But it's reputation doesn't do it any favours.

I've known worse...Bransholme in Hull for example Never lived there nor Blackbird Leys...but Hull is far, far worse. Tis death out there!

Doesn't Blackbird Leys have the highest rate of joy-riding and car theft in the country? Or one4 ofthem anyway.
I lived in Oxford (Not blackbird Leys, Kidlington) my whole life until I moved to the midlands last year and I only ever had to go there once. Nothing bad happened but I still didn't like it!
