Hi, my 15 month old mini schnauzer cant help but go crazy if we see another dog in the street.  This can consist of yapping and squealing or an aggressive growling noise.  Along with this she pulls as hard as she can to try and get to the other dog.  She did a series of pup socialisation classes and manages to have an offlead run with a couple of other dogs once every week or so.

She is also quite noisy when we see people approaching, but not as excited as when it's another dog. 

Is there anything we can do to get her to be a little quieter?

I would suggest you get her meeting more dogs, more often!

One of mine was similar because he was so excited at seeing more of his own species, even though he lives with other dogs. If your schnauzer is your only dog she is bound to be either thrilled or a little anxious at seeing others of her kind, so you need to try to make them less of a novelty, and the best way to do this is to meet them so often they become commonplace and boring.

I have thought that this might be the answer.  I think it seems like adolescent excitement, but it can come across as a bit aggressive.  Think I might take her back to some basic training classes, where they have an opportunity to play of lead as well as doing other things.  (The place where we did our 8 week puppy socialisation also does a follow on class for young dogs over 6 months old).

It isnt such a logical reason for her behaviour towards people, as she meets many adults and children most days at home.  May be it is when the excitement of seeing people is combined with the excitement of being out on a walk!
