i recently had my dogue hip scored and had the results back on friday.........The results were 91, We're devastated as we thought our dogue was from good lines. Can anyone explain what happens next? Obviously we won't be able to breed from her now.

Keep your dog at the correct weight exercise well to keep muscled up

If you dog likes swimiing it's an excellent way of keeping your dog fit

Sory it's a high score like one of my collies who at 11 is fit well never been lame or had hind leg problems

Was the score even like 46:45 ?

I have 2 dogue de bordeaux and have had the girls scores back at 6-5, the average is about 14 but so few have been scored that it is very hard to get a reliable mean average, have you got the parents scores they should be on the K.C. registration form for you dog, what type of excercise has she had and what age is she, if the score is pretty even on both side it seems to rule out an injury, even to get a score that high the parents may have had good scores but it could be further back how far back did you research your pedigree's when decideing which breeder you got you puppy from. What course of action has your vet advised. Would you consider contacting me I would like to have a talk if you do not mind and anything said would go no further, just for my own reference, we researched the breed for 5 years before getting our 2, I have a friend that has one that has a hip score of 80, if you would talk  my email address is chymera@tmastif.fslife.co.uk I know I must sound cheeky but I am just interested for myself, and could maybe put you in touch with someone in the breed that could offer advice as she has had the same problem, and her lad is about 5 years old now

There were, according to the latest list I have, 62 Dogue scored and the breed average was 26. Sorry to hear about your dog, it can happen that even though the breeder has used low scoring parents there may still be some really bad scored in the background of the dogs. As so few have been scored it would be difficult to say that any dog had low scores back through more than a couple of generations. It needs as many dogs as possible to be scored in order to get a usefull picture, it is almost more important to know what the progeny of a particular dogs hip scores are, rather than what the dogs score is. In other words a low scoring dog may be producing high scoring pups and a high scoring dog low scoring pups, as it depends on what sort of hips are being brought forward from that dogs ancestry. It is still not correct to use a high scoring dog for breeding as although it may have sound pups the problem could cause trouble in a future generation.

Would ask your vet to see a specialist as soon as possible so that a course of action can be taken to make sure the best is done for your dog. Would also ask for the elbows to be done.

62 Dogues out of 2000+ is not enough to get a breed average from. 14 was Tibetan Mastiff one of the other breeds I have got the lists mixed up  Sorry. We had Britneys elbows done at the same time as her hips to avoid 2 anesthetics.I think we must have been lucky with her.Her dads hip score was 9 and her mums was low all the pups that have been hip scored have been low we are haveing the dogs hips done in April and just hope we are as lucky with him, although we live in Cambridgeshire we went to a vet in North yorkshire that was recommended and the dog is going to the same vet, but would like all the information possible as we hope to breed from her at the end of the year.
