My staff has cut her paw on some glass, three times i've been to the vets first time stitched second staple then stitched again this time it's been left open to heal by itself she's on MARBOCYL  P 20mg..
what i'm concerned about is the fact that she wont walk on it... i've been bathing it daily in warm salted water but can i use stuff like savlon aticeptic and bandage it myself???
if anyone has any ideas how to deal with this type of injury you'd been putting a worried devoted owners mind at rest!!!!!

Dave,

DON'T put Savlon or any other cream on.  An open wound will see this as bacteria and will fight it by going septic and horrible.  Stick with the warm salty water and find some new walks without glass.  :)

Aloe Vera gel is very good for cut paws. For washing I use warm salt water, I either get some in a bowl and swish the paw around or I use a syringe (without needle!) to squirt water into the cut to wash out any dirt.

Salt water is good but made my dog flinch too much as it stings, I found that TCP diluted with warm water is less harsh.

Get some dog boots, they are ideal for protecting pads and allow the dog to have some gentle exercise.  I generally bandage the foot, cover with a plastic bag (to make it easier to put in boot) and then boot up for a walk.

Arnica tablets might help with the healing.  I'd only keep it covered when you really need to, the air will help to dry and heal it.

Wouldn't like to say bathing it is wrong, but when my Staffie had a bad cut, that was stitched, I was told to keep it totally dry. He also had to wear a head collar to stop him licking it, and making it inflammed.
