Are Japanise Tosa's banned in this country?
It's just that I have seen a few for sale & crosses.

That is certainly the definitive answer.

There are always some people willing to break the law for the sake of money unfortunately

Usually the wrong sorts of people who get breeds such as this an even worse name :(

what i have heard is that the "tosas" being bred and sold as such in the uk are infact a mastiff hybrid that have been created to fleece people.it was easier and cheaper to do this than to import and flaunt the quaranteen laws

hi cooper, "heard" and "seen" are 2 different things. while there may be people breeding crosses to fool others, there are purebred tosas here in the uk, although the gene pool is rather limited, as there were not that many in the UK prior to the DDA. whilst they are "banned" under the DDA, so are pitbulls and they are as popular as ever! some laws are wrong and deserve to be broken!! :-)

As I recall there was ONE Tosa in the UK (which was neutered) at the time they were banned so anyone who has brought any in are breaking the law and really not doing the dogs a favour because if they get caught regardless as to how they are being kept the poor animals will end up in kennels for months and possibly being put down. People who are doing this have no regard for the dogs themselves.

Thanks for the info I thought they were banned (lovely dog though) it's just a shame that it along with the pit bull have fallen into the wrong hands in the past & fall under the DDA. After all there is good & bad in every breed :0)

The Tosa was never bred to be a family pet but to be a superior fighting dog
And that goes for the Bully Kuta as well only bred for fighting ?? but we have a breeding pair in the country ?

I recall there being more than one tosa in this country prior to the DDA, there are ways to get round any law which is unjust, for instance, when you see japanese mastiff for sale, this often means tosa, or tosa cross. I know of a breeder who advertises regularly and has had no problems so far, the fact is when the DDA came into power many dogs, pitbulls too, were crossbred with other breeds for a few generations or kept well hidden!! once the initial knee jerk reactions of the DDA were by with, these breeds made a come back. I know a man who had a pitbull (purebred and from known fighting stock - but he was a pet I hasten to add) which he had prior to the DDA and for several years after until his dog eventually died of old age and no-one ever bothered him as the dog was well known in the area, and was a big softie with everyone. I did feel very sorry for the people who did suffer from the DDA though, as it appears the only people to have their dogs seized were innocent ones!!

That's strange because I remember well the news reporting that there was only ONE Tosa in the UK. Still if people want to break the law then I hope you are never a victim of a law breaker. Once you start thinking that some laws should be broken don't complain when people break ones you don't think should be broken.

There was only one Toss & it was sent abroad so there should not be any in the UK at this time
