Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / stinky lab!

Hi all. My 7 month old chocolate lab has always been house trained from being 9 wks but the last three mornings i have come downstairs to a huge poop near the back door! There has been no change in his diet or exercise and otherwise he seems well. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, why do they always insist on either eating, or worse, rolling in every available poop they can find? Thanks, Sarah x

I have found that sometimes I think they have been to the loo last thing and they didn't. Try just giving him a quick walk outside to encourage him to go.

If we knew the answers to the eating and rolling we would make a fortune!!!!!!!!!!!

Have read on this very site a good tip to get rid of horrid smells when a dog has rolled in something.
Cheap tomato ketchup rubbed into the coat prior to shampooing supposed to remove all trace of the odour.

I think i read somewhere that the reason they roll in smelly things (mmmm badger poo, duck poo, dead animal, otter poo etc) is to disguise their scent for the hunt... its true apparently!

Hi Sarah,

Whenever I have a housetrained dog poop in the house I worm them.   It has always cured the problem for my dogs.
