English Toy Terrier Black and Tan
I have admired these handsome little dogs from afar for many years, not knowing what breed they were. Now, I have scoured the internet and have finally found them. Could anyone offer me any advice?
I live with a four year old beefy (11 1/2 inch collar) rescue cat - British pedigree cross, who tolerates the other neighbourhood cats using his cat flap from time to time to shelter from the rain. He takes a while to adjust to new things - ingrates!, but comes round eventually.
My three children visit at weekends. They are 7, 11 and 15, all animal lovers, patient and wise with animals.
I live in a compact, 2 bedroom town house with a small garden, 5 minutes walk from the local heath and woodland, and my vet is fantastic.
I have three rescue horses, all of whom are used to cats and other small dogs at the yard.
The following are important to me:
A dog who can adjust to the quiet of living with just me and a cat, spending time on a farm, but then the general hub-bub of family life at the weekends.
I would NOT be leaving the dog alone, except for odd shopping trips.
An intelligent dog that can be trained when I put the time in, especially with the necessity sometimes to gain control around horses and children.
Chewing! Biting! Please not prone to.
An affectionate and loving dog (and this would be given in abundance)- not prone to intense jealosy.
Minimal coat shed and ability to be trained to stay at home QUIETLY for short periods.
Can cope with car travel.
I hope that this doesn't seem to strict a list. I like to consider all things before I take an animal as it only fair to them. Nothing is guaranteed and they bring their own personality to everything and each has their own.
If someone can offer me their experience of these perky, handsome little dogs, I would be SO grateful.
