Helen plans to return to the UK this year. She hopes to bring with her, her pet Mozambique Running Dogs. There are two. She is thinking of bringing them in via Spain, so they can get used to the change in weather conditions here.
Has anyone any ideas how to do this? Her other half is a vet specialising in tropical diseases so the dogs are jabbed and clear of parasites etc.

How long would they be in Spain for Polly?
Depending on how long ......they could come from Spain on a Pet Passport. That includes the Canary Islands but not Ceuta or Melilla.

The thing is none of us have ever imported anything before so don't know how it works! I would not use imported flatcoats, (as American/Canadian ones have PRA and European ones have hereditary cataracts both eye problems are not in UK flatcoats), so the problem has never arisen. The only reason we were thinking of Spain as a "stop over" destination is that the dogs are short coated and the change in climate. We need to know how long they would have to stay in Spain, plus we need more information generally about importing.

polly give me a ring on 01252310267,aftre 8pm beacuse my spainsh water dogs dad came from spain last year,so i may be able to ask fay how it works for you.

The dogs would have to be resident in Spain to start the passport process. That is going to take a minimum of 7-8 months. I do not know what the Spanish requirements for entry into Spain from their country of origin would be. You need to check that out.

I have imported from Europe so if you need to chat about pet passport, feel free to ring me for a chat. If you should opt for quarantine, I can also help you in that direction. :-)

Terri, I have shown Bear in Europe before he came to England. I haven't taken him back to Europe yet.He is going to Holland in July :-) All Pet Passport Requirements are available from DEFRA. You could also phone the PETS Helpline on 0870 241 1710. They are very helpful and may be able to tell you what jabs etc are required for entry into Spain.

I am going too with a coach trip! In fact there are at least 3 of us going with elkhounds! I am taking two girls, and my friend one, and a lady from Wales is taking a male.

Has anyone taken their dogs with a coach tour. I am wondering how the caging is going to work, and also what the rules about the dogs will be in the Hotel in Holland?

You need to check with the individual hotels Brainless. They all vary. Have you booked a hotel yet or is it part of the coach deal? I know of at least 20 other people that are taking gundogs over to this show.
