or a pug. My fiance and I are both strongly allergic to cats but have had some reasonable experience with short haired dogs. I love pugs and have found them no bother to my allergies at all, but websites give different advice on how much hair they shed. Is it a great deal? To Daschunds shed less/at all?  And is it true that the daschund breed is 'cruel', because they're elongated bodies are uncomfortable for them? I come from a completely un-dog family and have un-dog friends and nobody seems to know anything except the crudest mysths/facts like the one about daschunds just described. Which of these dogs is better for a city couple, although in a big house with a long garden and a park just next door? Also, does anyone know a breeder I could approach?  Phew - too many questions...but still reply if you can,

yours,

Zadie Smith

Either dpg would be suitable for city life.
You really need to research them both first. Maybe arrange to go and see a couple of breeders and have a chat with them before you make your mind up.
I don't know a lot about pugs, but i do about dachsies. The wirehaired version would probably be most suited to someone who suffers from allergies as these give off the least hair. The long haired breed shed quite a bit as do the smoothes.
The wire's would need either stripping or clipping two or three times a year.
They are not an easy breed, notoriously difficult to house train and extremely stubborn. So training would be a must.
As for being a cruel breed, i don't think so. Mine are very happy. I have however had problems with some of their backs in the past. You would need to make sure that you purchased from a good breeder.
And insurance is a must. One of mine has just cost £2000 in the last few months.
I don't allow mine to jump on the furniture or go up or down the stairs.
Hope that helps somewhat.
