Hi trai I havent seen your other post so bear with me if I get anythng wrong! Rescues can take time to settle and grow in confidence to play, or if they never had the chance to play, you need to teach them. Decide to play with her several times a day eg during an ad break on telly or when you boil the kettle. First find what interests her eg if she stares at blowing leaves it could be movement, or our pup liked to tug the rag, and get a toy that matches this. Keep toys under your control eg in a drawer to increase their value and insist on good manners - teeth touch hand and game over.  We used a tennis ball on a rope and teased him with the ball, calling him excitedly and making funny noises so he leaped about with his eyes popping out of his head, and kept this up for ages until we let him tug the rope, and put the toy away while he was still keen saying FINISH. The other toys that he goes nuts for are squeaky toys which he gets while my husband is out :D Once you get her attached to one toy you can play loads of games like hide and seek the toy( you can play hide n seek without toys on walks too) fetch the toy etc. Dont spend loads of money - tennis ball on rope is about £2, old rags are free, plastic bottles with lid and ring off, a good Kong is very adaptable - throw it, stuff it, attach a line to it, cuddly toys come from charity shops ( watch the eyes) and my favourite the old sock with treats inside is free too.Toys like bottles, treat balls they roll about and collect the treats as they fall out, chews etc are toys dogs can play with by themselves, playing with humans helps build a bond and lays the foundations of training. Gwen Baileys book Good Dog behaviour has some great ideas, as does Perfect Puppy which covers birth to maturity (2) and she has a book about rescues too. Have fun!

Hi,  I have an 18mnth old springer and I found playing hard at first too.  When  I got her she had been part trained as a gun dog but wouldn't retrieve so they sold her to me. So finding games was quite hard.  So we made up loads of games involving sitting when told (I use the sit word only for sit and stay) like me hiding behind bushes a little way away where I could still see her but she couldn't see me - then I'd call her and she'd come flying round the bend at me!!! - it's a great game cos there's nothing nicer than seeing your dog hounding towards you wagging it's tail.  And she's recently shown an active interest in a paint roller - so I might even get her to retrieve yet!!! as Lorelei said it's just about finding something your dog finds interesting as they do bore easily - and it's no fun "fetching" the thing yourself!! - and any games that involve a training element are obviously good.  You will be surprised how quickly you build a great relationship and then the playing comes naturally.

As for the peeing thing - again I have that trouble too as mine was a kennel dog before I got her.  I have to say i invested in a crate in the end, which she won;t mess in, and then let her out at increasing intervals (i.e.  every hour for a couple of days, then every two) until I found her natural "rhythm".  She still doesn't ask as such but I generally know what sort of time of the day she needs to go - and now the crate is left open all day and she still waits for me to let her out.  I know that doesn't really answer your question but hope it helps a bit.
