we have a lovely great dane bitch aged 8 months and wondered if anyone could give us information on breeding from her, eg suitable age, how to find a suitable stud dog and how we go about informing the kennel club. thanks....

I have an absolute star of a great dane who is show quality but it doesn't mean i want to breed from her.
Your girl is young you haven't even got through the teenage months yet, she may seem brilliant natured now but wait another month lol.
Enjoy her you have plenty of time yet to decide her future (i think it's recommended they be over 2yrs before they are bred).

Learn about your breed before even thinking of breeding

The best person to talk to should be your girls breeder. Does she not have any endorsements on her pedigree?
As previously mentioned the breed ethics state a Dane should be two years old before having her first litter. She should ideally be hip scored as well.

Hi Guest I am no expert on G danes but your bitch will need to be at least 2 and she will need to have her hips x-rayed (hip scored) and her eyes tested you should also contact the breed club they will be able to advise you any other tests for the breed .
Again the best person to speak to is her breeder but failing that join the breed club and meet some fellow owners some of which will be very experiaanced with the breed and may be willing to give you advice on breeding from your bitch. :)
