Miss Sarah Rackstraw
Try looking at the dogs at the next show you go to, you must have seen plenty around and had time to study their pedigrees, confirmation, temperaments etc whilst making your girl up surely?

How old is your girl, I can find no reference to her wins over the last few years, unless you show under a different name. If you need help to find a sire for her I would contact her breeder who should be able to help you with the task. But if she is over 4 years old I would speak to the vet as that is starting to get a bit late to breed her.

Is this a typing error? Champion or Champton as affix? Need a stud now??? I think we need to send for the Billy Goats :D

Seems a bit strange...would have thought that someone who showed their dog and made it up to a champion would know of a suitable stud?

Perhaps the poster was just trying to avoid the comments from folk suggesting they show the dog first?

If they were that bright then you would think they could work out how to find a stud, after all along with the "have your bitch assessed" goes the "talk to the bitches breeder" or "contact the breed club"
IMO anyone who does not know how to locate a suitable stud should not be breeding - there now I've said it.

but maybe they don't talk to their breeder? i have had a dog in the past from a breeder who didn't keep in touch (not through lack of my trying) ;) perhaps the breed club haven't been helpful? perhaps they are shy?
just playing devils adocate - its not that i don't agree with you jackie, but perhaps they were just trying to avoid a lecture? sometimes folk can be harsh when replying to novice breeders and we all have to start somewhere (not me, breeding no longer appeals - too much like hard work!)

OK so you hate the bitches breeder, that's your first mistake, you should not buy a brood bitch from someone you can't get on with, talk to the breed clubs, you don't show but that does not stop you going to take a look, but more important if you want to breed you do your research, you know what dog would suit your bitch and if it has had the required health tests, you know if your bitch is a good example of the breed, you know if there are any recurrent problems in the breed that you should be looking into, you know if there will be a market for your well breed and hopefully excellent examples of the breed that will come closer to the breed standard than does your bitch. I could go on but I am sure those of you who love dogs will know all this and more and the last thing you would need to do was ask on a public forum how to find a stud and not even bother to state who the bitch is and from what lines.
OH! and should I be reporting you as a WUM ;)

Jackie - breeders can be lovely when they are about to take money off you, and then rapidly disappear - its a bit late once you have bought a pup. Not everyone has years of experience, everyone has to start somewhere. You are preaching to the converted here, I KNOW everything about what you are saying - but not EVERYONE does - thats why some still buy from puppy farms and some breed crosses in the name of consumerism!
Perhaps this poster prefers the internet and to deal by mail - I do - I barely ever speak to my friends on the phone because I am on the phone all day (literally) and I hate ringing people - I would far rather email someone and get chatting than have to phone up and get a grumpy breeder (which I have done before). Loads of people use the internet to find information now - lets not hang her out to dry just because she tries it!
For what its worth the poster SHOULD be looking at friends in the breed to help her, thats what I would do, but can we not just give them the benefit of the doubt in the first instance?

<<<<I LIVE IN SUNDERLAND IS THERE ANY PLACE NEAR HERE AS A NEED ONE NOW >>>
from this wording I don't think the poster would have even bothered with the bitches breeder...as long as it is male, available now and near to sunderland..it will do

or perhaps the poster is dyslexic?
By archer
Date 03.03.04 20:27 UTC
Dyslexic or not...its obvious the poster wants a stud...local and now!! Not the best criteria to use to select a suitable stud..sure you'll agree

Not everyone is brilliant at English. Do you think that sniping will make the poster come back and listen to advice about the best way to find a stud? Its no wonder folk don't bother to listen to good advice because of the way its offered! I am not disagreeing with any of your advice, but people listen when talked to in a polite way - not when they are lectured! :)
OP - I would definitely suggest talking to your breed club about a suitable mate for your bitch, and it might be a good idea to wait until her next season so you have chance to prepare fully before mating her with a checked out and health tested dog :)

its got nothing to do with being good at english...I have no problems with people who have learning problems or disabilities..I have a deaf daughter and an Autistic son..both of whom have problems.
What I said was that even allowing for bad english the poster mad it more than clear that they wanted a 'convenient' stud not a good one.
I still stand by what I said before ...if the poster made the dog up to be a champion then they would know how to find a suitable stud! Lying about this to avoid unwanted advice is still lying.
I think we will have to agree to disagree

So if the poster had put:
"looking for a breed standard stud dog, fully papered, proven, with full good health testing results - preferably local to my area, to breed with my tested and papered bitch (let down at the last minute by arranged stud). forced to request for a stud through forums such as this as breed club not helpful and breeder moved and lost touch, any advice appreciated"
that would be OK, yes? you would then have gone on to offer friendly advice? my mum knows all the info above, but wouldn't be able to write it in such a way because she is no good at english. why can you not just give folk the benefit of the doubt?
yes, lets agree to disagree.
