With a dog

Perhaps you had better post again telling us of your experience and what breed you have or wish to acquire. If you want to breed then it is imperative that you start with the best animal you can find/buy.

Jackie
i think you mean the best example of the breed not the best he can find - as this may be a very poor example indeed

( but I know what you meant) ;)

Did mean the best that can be found, expecting the person contemplating buying a foundation bitch to have spent many months researching the breed and that they would know a good one when they saw it, otherwise how would they be able to assess the quality of a stud or it progeny. Or if it comes to it, if they themselves are producing pup that are worthy of the breed name, we do not know what the breed is but have to assume that someone contemplating breeding is hoping to produce pups that are able to be used to improve the breed, not all of them, but at least some should be outstanding examples of the breed and all will be carrying the genes of quality dogs and should be able to offer something to the breed.

One of the sad things to see in a breed that becomes very popular is the reduction of quality in the animals, the average one seen in the local park becomes further and further away from the breed standard till even experienced people are left wondering if the dog is a breed or a cross. If it is a cross that's ok but if it is supposed to be an example of a breed then that is very sad. Would hope that anyone proposing to breed would have the welfare of the breed they love at heart and only breed if they genuinely feel they can offer something worthy.
