I wonder if anyone out there can help me I have a 6 month old bull terrier who has just recently started chasing his tail constantly and when he finally gets it, he's ot interested in it.  I have heard somewhere that this is not a healthy habit can anyone offer any advice on how to overcome this problem.  I have contacted my breeder who has suggested he may have a flea or need worming I hae checked him for fleas and also treat him anyway with flea solution every month although checked him just to be sure.  He was due for worming which has now been done today but if anyone can offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm wondering if he's just bored??   perhaps he needs something to do??   I often put half of my Bedli's food in a buster ball and let him roll it around to give him something to do.  He also has a kong which we fill, and we hide treats around the living room for him to search for :)

Someone else will probably be along soon and have more ideas :)

Regards
Dill

If you search Google for "tail chasing" there is quite a lot of information available.

Hello.
No help really but it seems I think it's a breed trait with bull breeds - had a Stafford dog once who did it. I think myself (although happy to be told otherwise) it was like people biting their nails -a habit they get into.
He did it all his life - and was totally happy/healthy otherwise and he did it more from about 6 -18 months though and then fairly occasionally all this life (16 years). I put it down to "hormones" and him being a bit "nutty" ;) It didn't overly bother me - just go ton my nerves occasionally :)

Providing that the anal glands are clear, would think it is either boredom or a learned habit.
