Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / HELP!!! My puppy won't eat!
- By santi [us] Date 02.03.04 18:41 UTC
This is the first puppy I've ever had, so I am truly clueless. She is about 2 months old 1/2 rottweiler, 1/2 german sheppard. She is a very playful puppy and very curious. My husband had noticed that she tryes to eat everything, which includes plastic, styrofoam, sticks etc. I told him not to worry, because she was just 'playing with it'. Well, needless to say I think she was EATING IT! Now she won't eat at all, only drink water. She won't eat her treats or anything else. This has been going on for about 2 days. I am very concerned and don't know what to do! Besides taking her to the vet.

Hello Santi

Why do you say apart from taking her to the vet?  If you're very concerned that such a young pup has eaten some thing/s that she shouldn't, it would be worth at least a phone call to your vet to ask for their opinion and for advice as to when/if to bring her in.  That's what I would do in your situation :)

Puppies are very inquisitive and use their mouths a lot, so keep a very close eye on her and don't let her play with or chew things other than her dog toys.

Good luck and let us know how your pup gets on :)

Edited to say:  The Pefect Puppy by Gwen Bailey is a book which is highly recommended on Champdogs.  It's available on Amazon, and it would give you insight into your puppy and help you with training etc.  Remember, even the most experienced dog people had a first puppy at some point :)

Hi

I just wondered if your pups any better? My rottweiler pup has also refused to eat recently, not even her favourite (scrambled eggs).  I waited a few days to see if she picked up and she soon did.  Shes now back to her normal eating habits.

I would try bits of chicken to tempt her.

Yes. My puppy is much better!! After 3 days she started eating again. Somebody said that their throats just close sometimes and there is nothing you can do. I wonder how true that is. But she is better now, and I am very happy. Thanks, you all for your help!!
