Just wondering if anyone knows what this could be
About once every 2 to 3 weeks my dog goes totally off his food for a day ( he is a very picky eater anyway - fed on arden grange) His tummy rumbles like mad and he looks totally miserable.  If you offer him a walk he is vey willing and enjoys himself, but in the house  he is miserable walking around and sleeping. He does need to put on some weight so i cannot afford for him to miss meals.  When this happened last time he was sick, he then must have felt better because he ate all of his tea.  Does anyone have any idea what this might be or how to stop it happening ?

Has he been wormed recently?  That maybe the problem if he hasn't.

yes i wormed him two weeks ago - but i did not get the wormer from the vets - a friend got it for me from th vets my dog is 11.5kg and they only gave me enough for a 10kg dog - do you think that it might have not worked maybe ? i'm beginning to think that myself - the wormer was drontal

I would worm him again.  Take him to the vets and get the correct dosage from them.

I personally don't think it's worms.
Had terrible problems with one of my dogs who had digestive problems all his life. He'd go off his food and sometimes his stomach would rumble so loudly I could hear it screeching in another room
When he got that bad I'd give him Gaviscon and that helped :)

my mum's dog is exactly like this ! i posted about it a few months back.  we've still not managed to sort it, i guess it's just a little quirk of her's - she's done it all her life and she's 7 now

You don't say what breed of dog you have.  Some dogs are prone to bloat and need careful food management; do you feed once or twice a day?  Some dogs need to have their food in 2 or even 3 meals to avoid feeling uncomfortable and producing an excess of bile which can make them vomit; or a biscuit on waking etc.  Long periods between meals can also adversely affect blood sugar levels.
