Hi
I was told my dog would always have worms and eggs living in his guts if I fed him on tinned dog food and that I would be much better off feeding him complete dry food as the eggs could'nt survive the process when being made. Could someone let me know if this is true or not?
Many Thanks
Dogs pick up worm (lavae) from a variety of sources (grass, other animal faeces etc) but neither of these should be tinned or complete dog food. However if you worm your dog regularly it should cut down on the risk of worms altogether.

Complete rubbish to suggest that with dried complete foods he will NOT get worms! This is the reason ALL dogs, no matter what they are fed, should be regulaly wormed.

This is a complete load of tosh!
Both processes effectively kill off bacteria (but NOT the endotoxins/aflatoxins that bacteria produce) because of the heat treatment they undergo; the same heat effectively destroys a lot of good things too!
Any processed food is only as good as its raw ingredients; if they are sub standard so will the food be. As they say, "garbage in, garbage out".
Whether you feed dry/tinned/moist/home cooked/raw is a matter of personal choice and belief. The way to avoid worms is to regularly worm your dog every 3 months with a decent wormer available from your vet (not the ones available over the counter in pet shops).
