I have an 8 month cavalier who, when out on walks, does yellowy/browny sloppy stools which makes it hard to clean up!!  But when he goes out in the garden at home to go to the toilet his poos are normal colour and firm and are easy to pick up.  He is fed on James Wellbeloved and has the odd hard biscuit.  Could it be that he is so excited on walks that he has these sloppy stools? Any ideas anybody? Thanks

My dogs sometimes do this. I put it down to them desperately wanting to mark their walking area that they force one out before it's really ready. (hot off the press, so to speak) :P  either that or they have special powers to make them runny knowing that some of it will remain behind, thus enabling them to mark their territory successfully. There is a spray you can get for occasions such as these-can't remember what it's called, but you spray it on and it freezes the poo so it can be picked up without drips.

Yes it could well be excitement that's making him loose.  My own dogs can get like it when they are wound up in a working situation. Don't worry about it - just be careful that your fingernails don't go through the poo bags when you are scraping up after him
