Hello
Does anyone have any information regarding wobblers syndrome in Dobermann`s.
It looks like my beloved Kai (aged 6) is showing signs, she is a lot more un blanced on her feet, and occasionally she has fallen over, she appears to walk more un steadly than she can run ( if that makes sense) At the moment I have her on something called Devils claw, its a homeopathic remedy and i'm hoping she will show some signs of improvement on this. She cannot have rimadyl or metacam as she is allergic to both, she`s also allergic to anesthetic (sp) so unfortunatly she cannot be operated on, The vet says its early stages of wobblers, and he is hoping that the devils claw will help Kai for a good while yet, is there any thing else i could be giving her to help her.
Is Wobblers heredetery? As I also have kai`s son ( who is neutered) and her daughter ( who i am seriously thinking of having spayed just in case )
Any information would be greatfully recieved
Thanks Kelly

Hi Kelly.
I had a dobe with wobblers, it is hereditary but can be caused by an accident. You can get neck x-rays which produce a score.

Hi Kelly
I am sorry to hear that Kai has Wobblers - there is a treatment known as gold bead therapy - as far as I can see this is a sort of permanent acupunture with gold covered beads put into the acupunture points and then the neck is firmly wrapped for a while.
I know of at least one vet in the UK who has done this and if you contact me I will give you his contact details.
It seems that there is a genetic element in this problem

Hello Again,
Thanx for the links, I`ve saved them all to favourites so I can read them all.
Christine, I would be very interested to know more about the gold bead treatment, is it purely acupuncture? or would it involve an operation, as if its the latter then i'm afraid my vet would advise me against this due to Kai being allergic to all Anesthetics, do you think acupuncture alone might help?
I did think it could quite possibly be genetic and was talking to the vet earlier about getting Luna speyed, ( sam is already neutered ) Sam showed no signs of adverse reaction to his anesthetic so fingers crossed Luna will be ok to be speyed in May. ( mid seasons ).
Many thanks Kelly
Hi Kelly
Have sent you details of the vet privately. This treatment was started in America by a Dr Durkes for HD, Wobblers and other arthritic conditions and I have heard many good reports on it. No sure about the GA requirements.
If you go this route please let us know how you get on.
