We have a beautiful Sheltie who is now 11-1/2 years old
and we are well aware he is getting old, although at the
moment he is in perfect health (although selectively deaf).
What we want to know is, is he too old to breed? He has
never (to our knowledge, unless he nipped out one day
when we were'nt looking) been with a lady. When talking
about getting another dog we (the family) all agreed we
would like another Beano (his name) or per haps one of his
puppys. Please can anyone advise? Kathie Smith

i would definatly say he is too old.
even if he was younger and you did have one of his puppy's, theres no guarentee it would even resemble your dog, or act like him.
If you want another sheltie check out the breeders on champdogs.
Good Luck x

I'd agree that it is too old for a first time stud, but thats not my area of expertise. If you plan on registering these puppies though, as far as I'm aware, unless there are special circumstances, you cannot register puppies by a parent over 12 years of age, so thats coming up. Thats AKC rules anyways.
