Hello
My dog who is two years old, over the past couple of weeks has got a hair loss problem which started as a small loss of hair on his hip about the size of a stamp, now it is mainly over his torso and back legs in small bald areas very blotchy. There is no sores or redness on the skin,he has been treated by the vet for fleas at first then skin infection but we our none of the wiser about his condition. The vet has decided to send him to a specialist,I was wondering if anybody on this fantastic web site had any constructive or helpful advice for me.Thanks in advance.

Hi

There are so many cause of skin problems and hair loss that it is difficult to know where to start.  It can be something as simple as your having your central heating too high to food allergies, to a heavy moult, to reaction to a plant or somthing you have washed his bedding in, to mange or mites or under active thyroid - so many things.

If he is being treated for a skin infection then two weeks is not long for it to start to show much improvement.

If you find out what it is and can give more details please let us know :)
