Never had bitches only dogs so Dolly is my first girlie! :) No complaints except she is constantly after food, she's a right scavenger (sp?)
A bloke this morning said bitches were like that, is this true? She definitely isn't thin so i know she is getting enough food, she isn't slim either but thick set (G.Dane) and people have commented on her brilliant appearance.
She has been wormed/flead etc recently (past month).
Woe betide if we leave a packet of biscuits round the house she has even pinched an empty can of tuna and sneaked off to her room for a sneaky licking session. She's a hoover! Is this common for a bitch?

My bitches are like that too. But then, so are my dogs! ;)

For some reason bitches are more greedier than dogs. Our bitch would eat all day if she had the chance and our friends Lab once opened the fridge door and ate a whole birthday cake and we he came home the dog was laying on the floor with a bloated stomach and whinging as its belly was too full! Would have loved to have seen that!

Well fancy that lol You learn something new everyday ;) I guess she is prone to comfort eating like myself, and we enjoy nothing better than watching a dvd while eating biscuits cos the hubby is away :D

I have English Cocker Spaniel and her name is Phantom. I can feed her half cup in the morning and half cup at night. Phantom would love to eat every 1 second of her life if she could get away with it. I don't have to tell Phantom when to eat she has a clock in her head. I started to get Phantom to wait and then I put her dish down then I give her comand to eat. My second dog is a Whippet and he's not food crazy. So your not alone in this. I hope that makes you fell better. I must tell you one thing it's easyer train your dog and to do dog tricks if your dog loves food and treats.

I have a Dogue de Bordeaux bitch that is quite content on her 2 meals a day, and the there is the newfoundland bitch she ate a FROZEN pizza that I had left on the bench for about 10 min, when I went to see to the kids I think some are pigs on legs and others that are content with there ration, I do not really think it is bitch thing

mygitrl what are you feeding her on.
I had my 11 mth GSD on Burns as well as my adult GSD, the pup was extremely hungry on this but weight was fine i found that in 2 weeks we were going through a 15kg sack so i took my pup off of it and have now put her onto pascoes complete and Bounce tinned found not the best of foods i know but, she is now full i feed them at 8 am, and 7pm and the pup is now getting her fill and not following the kids around when the have food or lookin under the table or on sides.

Hi Sarah,

I've only had bitches, so I can't compare the two sexes.  However, I've had bitches that had very little interest in food and others that would do anything for a crumb of something.

Cordelia I feed her on JWB 2x a day and she'll have a snack at supper (weetabix, porridge or tuna) and a few doggy treats during the day!

I changed my male dogue de bordeaux 9 month old pup on to BURNS about 2 months ago and we have used 4 sacks, I rang Burns helpline as they said to feed him 28oz a day, we were feeding about 38 and he was still looking for food he was haveing winolot tinned food with it(son works for the firm and gets 24 cans for £4) they said that we were over feeding him and his digestive system would be haveing problems with that amount, dogues are prone to blout and that really worried me, we have taken him down to 32oz still with the winalot, but he is still hungry so I do not know if I will keep him on it. My other dogs are on Dr John's a cheap food but they love it and the black newfoundlands coat shines, and she is full of life

The other prob we had was not settling to good at night but since changing she is fine sleeps form 9 till about 7am.
So you are going through more than i did as i had two dogs on the same food, if i was in your position i would change as this is obviously not satisfing your dogs apitite. Is his weight ok with the amount of food you are giving, best way to tell is if you can feels the ribs then the dogs should be alright but if it is hard to feel them then the generaly say the dog is over weight.

Kujoe is 9 months old and is at that big ganggly stage, he is going to be massif, he is 9 month old Dogue de Bordeaux and weighs over 9 stone hye is wormed regularly, I know he will fill out by the time he is 18 month to 2 years old but that is why a changed him onto a food that was full of all the right ingredient but without all the chemicals and waste products, he is haveing chicken wings as well, he loves the other dogs food but it is cheap but the other are older and only need a maintanance diet plus they look good and healthy with shineing coat. We used to feed raw, 400lb of Tripe and 200 chicken mince at a time 50 lbs of chicken wings and carcases, and wholewheat biscuit, but we kept it up for 6 months and there was not marked improvement in there condition and muscle tone, but when we are away my veggy daughter with obsessive personality disorder will not touch or feed this and when the show season starts, with the caravan and no freezer we are away for up to 3 months and it is not a good diet to feed when we have them away with us. The Tibetan Mastiff's that we have had for years were a line that were early maturers and never had feeding promlems with. I went for Burns as a lot of people have had good results and the thought of feeding less was a consideration as the dogues are prone to blout(his mum died from blout when he was 5 weeks old) but although he is over 9 stone I have a dread that the RSPCA would think be was starved. Boy can I ramble on sorry
