Could anyone give me advice on what age and how much it would be to have my puppy micro-chipped.
- By Kerioak Date 29.02.04 09:44 UTC
I do mine at about 7 weeks before they leave me, and you could expect to pa anything between £12 - £30 depending on whether the local dog wardens are having a microchipping clinic  or whether you go to your vet

from 7 weeks old cost depends where you are,in surrey vets are from £20 to £30

or persons like myself which have been trained to do mircochipping £15 each dog more than two discount plus discount on litter which i think all litter should be chip before leaving their mum,or some id for the new puppy to go to the new home one less worry for the new owners to think about.

i wish the uk will some arrgeement like new zealand that all dog have to be chip,

Hi Briedog

You seem to have the same rates as me :)

I too wish all pups had to be permanently identified before leaving the breeders and that the breeders/owners were made responsible for the dogs for their lifetime.

I agree too that way we can trace who is producing what!

Kerioak & Briedog

I to have the same price rates as you two :-) and totally agree to puppies being implanted before they leave, I implant my puppies between 7 and 8 weeks, and scan the puppies before they leave, so the new owners can see that all is correct and working fine. :-)

Well I prefer to have my pups tattooed, as they come to your home to do it free of charge, with just the tats and registration to pay for.

I do usually suggest that the new owner has the pup chipped when it is vaccinated, as most vets offer this.  That way most of them end up with two permanent IDs, one of which is visible, and hopefuylly more of a deterant to theft.

Brainless who does tattoos? the vet? I'm paranoid about our girl and she's been chipped and it's practically blinging with id discs but a tattoo would be more noticable if she wasn't wearing her collar (not very often but you never know).

Normally if it is a single dog you would go to the tattooists, as thye4 do litters in the home, but if they are doing a litter in your area they can sometimes do you on the way.  This lis their website link: http://www.dog-register.co.uk/

When I had a litter of pups I had them all tatooed.  They said that if any of the pups were picked up and identifed then the National Tattoo Register would automatically contact me.  That was nearly 6 years ago and I haven't had a phone call yet :D :D I bet I'll get one now I have said that

I got my cat tattooed yesterday, she told me that it can take up to 2 weeks to see the numbers, and to keep the ear dry.
well as my cat is almost all white, he is now all green he must of been washing himself in the night, he still has some ink
left in his ear, but does anyone know if it will affect the tattoo at all.
Loulu.
- By Moonmaiden Date 29.02.04 23:53 UTC
No it won't affect the tattoo, I'm surprised it was done in green though as they changed to black ink years ago
- By loulu [gb] Date 01.03.04 00:19 UTC
Thanks moonmaiden for letting me know, did not fancy putting the cat back in the car again. going back in 2 weeks to have my pup
done aswell so ill ask her why green. did get her number from National dog tattoo register, my other dog is in black
but not done by same person. just thought cats must be done in green.

I had two dogs tattood in the last two years, one had green ink and one had blue!
- By peilady [gb] Date 01.03.04 09:31 UTC
I was once told by the tattooist for the north west region, when I had my gsd's many moons ago, that they used Green dye for puppies and kittens, as I had all my puppies tattoo'd before going to their new homes then.  And they used bluey/black dye for anything from 8 weeks upwards, so visually giving the tattooist a quick idea of when the dog was done :-)
- By tohme Date 01.03.04 09:34 UTC
Both mine were adults when they were tattood but they were tattood by two different people as the first one had moved :)
- By Moonmaiden Date 01.03.04 10:17 UTC
They should all be done in black ink why because if makes for better tattoos nothing to do with puppies or adults the numbers tell the register if the tattoo was done as a sinlge dog or as a puppy for the breeder

I don't know why some people are still using the green ink but it should be black, just checked with a tattooist who has being doing tattooing for over 12 years
- By loulu [gb] Date 01.03.04 19:50 UTC
Hi could someone please let me know if tattoos are suppose to be in black ink now, as i dont want to get my pup done by this person
aswell if its wrong. And why is she on the National dog tattoo register, if she not using the right ink. and does it realy matter what
colour it is,
Loulu
- By Moonmaiden Date 01.03.04 20:43 UTC
The reason why she should be using black ink is that the resultant tattoo using black ink is better than the green

Check with Jill at the tattoo register if you have a problems
