how do i groom lily, broken coat parson russell ? we brush her regularly to get rid of excess hair, but today when i gave her a bath, she turned into the most enormous puffball. i brushed her whilst damp but that didn't help. i just can't get her fluff to lie down at all - she looks like a powder puff ! help !

Have you thought about having Lily hand stripped?

i thought you had to hand strip them also, i have a lady at ringcraft that has spent the last couple of weeks hand stripping hers for crufts.

the lady at club showed me one night, she has the dog on the table and with her thumb and index finger she just pulled out the hairs that were sticking up out of her dog,
i thought the dog would yelp when i saw her doing it,but it just stood there, she seemed to roll her fingers and pull the hairs at the same time to get the hair out the difference was brilliant after a couple of mins,i can't explain it properly as i don't have a terrier someone else might, but try google and put in hand stripping terriers and something might come up.

I hand strip Rosie, my Welsh Terrier and have also stripped a few border terriers that come to me for grooming. You do it the way hippychick described but may take a bit of time to grasp. If your thumb and finger hurt at the end of it you've been doing it right!! Maybe you could book Lily in to a professional groomer for the first time and maybe ask if you could watch for a little while to see how its done. Let us know how you got on - and how Lily looks afterwards!!!
she won't be bald will she ?
roughly how much would it cost to get her stripped professionally ?

I hand strip my spinoni, but I've also found a stripping stone to be very useful. It's a black block of volcanic stuff and you stroke it in the direction of coat growth. You would get one at any grooming stand at Crufts, if you are going. I don't know if it would work on a terrier though. Terrier people? Would a stripping stone be helpful for Lily?

No she wont be bald lol!! Hand stripping only takes out the hair that is ready to come out. Costs vary really - i charge thirty pounds on average because it is more work than just clipping the coat but one of my customers used to pay eighty where she went. - Complete rip off in my view.
